The creation of benchmarks using only the manual painting method is not recommended unless you are an Occupational Psychologist or Psychometrist. Benchmarks are ideally built using the Job Description Survey (IDS) Study or Concurrent Study methods, or both if you wish to combine the benchmarks. This guide will outline the steps involved in painting a manual benchmark.
STEP 1: Create a New Position
Hover over the <Positions> menu title and then click <New Position>.
STEP 2: Entering New Position Details
To create a new position, complete the details in the first section of the screen. These include entering the following:
- Position Name: The unique name given to this position which will appear on report covers.
- Description (optional): A short description of the position. The description is only viewable in the Position List.
- Categories (optional): To help find the position at a later date, click on <Edit> to add the position to one or more categories.
- Scope: Refers to what scales will be used when candidates are assessed for this position. You cannot change the scope once you save the position. The standard scope is WNS1S2IP which contains all of the scales. It is recommended you choose the largest scope to provide the greatest flexibility.
- Style: The style of the position will determine the wording given in certain reports, and may be edited later to change the wording.
- Owner: The login who will receive Status emails for the position.
- Account Access: Whether the position is <Public> or <Private>. A private position can only be used by the owner login or an administrator login.
STEP 3: Selecting the Benchmark Creation Method
Select the ‘Nothing for Now’ option.
STEP 4: Saving the Position
Click <Save and Continue> to save the Position and proceed to the Benchmark List tab.
STEP 4: Selecting to Manually Paint the Benchmark
Once the page has refreshed it will display the Benchmark List tab. Click on <Paint Benchmark – Advanced> at the bottom left of the screen to proceed to the blank New Benchmark graph page.
STEP 5: Painting the Benchmark
There will be three areas you will be able to paint adjustments to the Benchmark in – Abilities, Interests, and Personality. To edit the benchmark you must select the appropriate ‘Paintbrush’ out of the three options, and then click on a sten (box) next to the scale name to paint it with the selected paintbrush.
- Benchmark: Allows you to paint the scales of the Prevue Benchmark in Green.
- Critical: Allows you to add “Critical Zones” to your benchmark which will appear as Red. Critical zones should only appear on either end of the benchmark graph. You will need to leave a minimum of one blank space between the Critical zones and green Benchmark.
- Erase: Allows you to correct or de-select the color from the scale.
Note: Critical zones should be used to identify scores on the benchmark that have proven to be detrimental to good job performance. If you opt to use the Critical zones, the resulting reports will provide Critical interview questions for candidates who land in the Critical zones. The reports will also deduct a percentage from the benchmark suitability score for each instance the candidate has landed on the critical zones.
STEP 5: Save the Benchmark
Click <Save & Close> to save the manual benchmark.
STEP 6: Activate the Benchmark
The Benchmark must be activated before it can be used. If the Benchmark has not been activated yet, click the checkbox to the left of the benchmark name and then click <Activate>.
Activating a Benchmark for the first time will deduct 40 credits from your account. After initial activation, you may activate a different benchmark for the same position at no extra charge.
To confirm benchmark activation, click <Confirm>. A red ‘A’ will show on the left of the benchmark indicating it has been activated.
Note: Only one benchmark may be activated at a time within the same Position.
